Chenrezig Sadhana

Sadhana is a Sanskrit term used to refer to a daily spiritual practice. Sadhana represents a disciplined surrendering of the ego, in which the practitioner uses tools such as meditation and chanting on a daily basis.

The four-arm Chenrezig is Bodhisattva with his white stainless body and two front arms are folded towards the chest and clasping a wish fulfulling gem, the other two arms are raised to shoulder leve, with the right hand holding a crystal rosary and the helft hand holding a white lotus.

The complete sadhana of Chenrezig (deity) is the embodiment of bodhicitta of all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.  Chenrezig is one of the most popular deity of Tibet and the one most known in the West.  Chenrezig represents the loving and compassionate potential of the mind, and by visualization of the recitation of a mantra enables a practitioner to experience of one’s true nature of mind.  This is the process of purifying one’s mind from the veils that obscure it and developing the awakened mind.  One can also gain a deep sense of samatha and develop strong compassion towards six realms and liberation from samsara.  In addition, it helps the practitioner to cultivate virtues and wisdom.

In the practice of Chenrezig, it consists of four parts which is preliminary prayers, phase of creation, phase of completion and conclusion. The preliminary prayers include with taking refuge and generating Bodhicitta.  This is followed by the phase of creation which refers to meditation where one visualizes the appearance of Chenrezig.  The phase of completion refers to the end of meditation during which one dissolves appearances into emptiness.  The conclusion is dedicating the merit and prayers.

The heart mantra of Chenrezig is OM MANI PADME HUNG.  It is used to bless and purify the bad karma, bad conducts and obscurations of beings of the six realms in order to liberate from samsara and approach the path of enlightenment.  Sadhana Chenrezig is very effectice and easy to practice.
